With an established penchant for undertaking works within occupied environments, it’s only natural that some of those should be in public buildings. These range from public libraries to public mortuaries with a whole host of diverse public uses in between.
In our experience, if it’s a public building the public want access, so unless the building is closed for the duration, the public will try and view construction works. We are adept with ensuring the health and safety of visitors during the works by strict segregation; however we acknowledge that by providing informative project details we can assist the public.
A former mental health block at Heatherwood Hospital is being converted into office space to centralise some of the hospital’s support services, such as HR, finance, IT and communications.
A refurbishment and new build extension at Southend Police Station. The project comprises of the main police station undergoing a full refurbishment, whilst the existing custody suite is demolished, making way for a new extension to the main building, housing a much needed 30 cell custody suite.
Based in Stratford the Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health & Wellbeing Centre was originally constructed to provide medical facilities for the 2012 Olympic athletes. Our brief was to reconfigure the top floor to provide a new 25 chair dental clinic. The new facility offers medical students the opportunity to develop their skills in a highly equipped training environment.
The project comprised the strip out of the old second floor laboratory area and the formation of five new high specification laboratories. We retained live services to the occupied areas whilst removing internal brick walls and lead walls from the former X-ray department.
