Norton Knatchbull School

The Governors of Norton Knatchbull School

The Norton Knatchbull School is a popular and highly regarded selective school for boys aged 11-18 which admits a growing number of girls into its Sixth Form. Many of the existing buildings are suffering from poor environmental performance and a range of condition issues, such as leaking roofs, spalling concrete, uninsulated cavity walls and single glazing.

Quality through design:
The project comprises of a new roofing, cladding and glazing scheme to address the environmental performance issues and poor state of repair of the school and a refurbished reception area. This brief was first implemented on the main school block recladding, glazing and repairing the leaking roof, and continues across the site.

The principal goals of the scheme are to improve the environmental performance and to repair the structure in order to extend the life and functionality of the buildings for the school.

Working in partnership:
Working within an occupied school, it was essential that all services were maintained and site access and egress routes were professionally managed to allow for minimal disruption and noise restrictions for the client and staff and pupils.
